Abchordis Ensemble

**Abchordis Ensemble** is a Swiss early music group based in Basel, founded in 2012 by musicians trained at the historic Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. The ensemble specializes in reviving forgotten Baroque gems, particularly 18th-century Italian sacred works and Neapolitan repertoire. Under artistic director Andrea Buccarella – a Rome-born harpsichordist and early music specialist – they’ve won accolades like the 2015 International Händel Competition Prize and released acclaimed recordings on Sony and Ricercar labels, including world premieres of works by Gennaro Manna and Giacomo Sellitto.

Known for their vibrant historical performances, Abchordis has graced festivals from Ambronay to Malta, blending scholarly rigor with emotional resonance. Their recent Vivaldi explorations, like the *Serenata a tre RV 690* recording, showcase their knack for breathing fresh life into Baroque vocal-instrumental works. The name “Abchordis” cleverly merges Latin phrases meaning “from the heart” and “from the strings,” reflecting their mission to balance technical precision with heartfelt musical storytelling.
