Mr Velcro Fastener

Mr Velcro Fastener, often stylized as Mr. Velcro Fastener and occasionally abbreviated as MRF, is a pioneering electropop act hailing from Turku, Finland. Comprising the duo of Tatu Metsätähti (also known as Mesak) and Tatu Peltonen, they found common ground through their mutual love of electro-funk and early hip-hop, which resulted in a collaboration that kicked off in the late '90s. Mr Velcro Fastener is best known for their deft blend of classic electro sounds with a modern twist, infused with bleepy atmospheres and robotic rhythms that hark back to the heyday of Detroit techno and b-boy culture.

Though they nod to the past, Mr Velcro Fastener is by no means mere revivalists; they have continuously pushed the boundaries of the electro genre, infusing their music with fresh energy and contemporary influences. With seminal releases like "Electric Appliances", which has become an electro staple, and thematic collections such as "Otherside" and "Lucky Bastards Living up North", they have crafted a distinct sonic identity. Their material is characterized by the use of crisp drum machine beats, vocoder-laced vocals, and immersive synthesizers. Notably, the "Robots 4 Life" EP cements their commitment to the robot-themed futurism that often underpins their aesthetic. Despite not being household names, their influence can be felt among connoisseurs of electronic music and they have maintained a dedicated fanbase throughout their career.
