Hollenthon is a symphonic death metal band hailing from Austria, formed by guitarist and composer Martin Schirenc, known for his work with the band Pungent Stench. The project originally began as a studio endeavor, blending elements of classical music, ethnic motifs, and extreme metal to create an epic, cinematic sound. Hollenthon's music is known for its orchestral arrangements, choral passages, and heavy, melodic riffing, setting it apart in the metal scene.
Their debut album, Domus Mundi (1999), introduced their unique style, but it was with their second release, With Vilest Worms to Dwell (2001), that they gained wider recognition. After a hiatus, the band returned with Opus Magnum in 2008 and the EP Tyrants and Wraiths in 2009, continuing to deliver their distinctive fusion of grandeur and aggression. Hollenthon remains a cult favorite among fans of symphonic and extreme metal.
