Carolyn Mills is a highly accomplished harpist best known as the Principal Harpist of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, a position she has held since 1989. Born in the United States, she studied with the legendary Lucile Lawrence in Boston and at Tanglewood, earning a Master of Music degree from Boston University. Carolyn has performed with major orchestras worldwide, including the Dallas and Houston Symphonies, and she has toured extensively across Europe, Asia, South America, Australia, and even Antarctica. She has collaborated with renowned artists such as Kiri Te Kanawa and Sting and has been involved in many international music festivals and concerts.
In addition to her orchestral work, Carolyn is an active soloist and chamber musician. She has released several albums including 'Mirage,' 'Preludes & Romances,' and 'Song of the Black Swan,' and formed the duo Flight with NZSO flutist Bridget Douglas, whose debut CD was nominated for Best Classical Album at the New Zealand Music Awards. Carolyn has also worked closely with modern composers, premiering new works specially written for her. Beyond performing, she pursues composition for pedal and lever harp and has recently become a Certified Music Practitioner, using the harp in healing and healthcare settings to inspire and aid patients.
