The Cataracs were an American hip hop record production project and duo formed in Berkeley, California, with members Niles "Cyrano" Hollowell-Dhar and David "Campa" Singer-Vine, who met during their high school years. They started out by creating independent music that was heavily influenced by the hyphy genre of hip hop, which is particular to the San Francisco Bay Area. The duo gained prominence with their production work and a distinctly West Coast party sound that mixed rap, electro, and dance music.
After building their reputation through a series of party anthems and a strong local following, The Cataracs broke into mainstream success with the track "Like a G6" in 2010, produced for the Far East Movement, which helped them garner international attention. Following Singer-Vine's departure from the group in 2012, Hollowell-Dhar continued to release music under the moniker. His body of work includes a variety of singles and extended plays highlighting the act's dance-heavy and electronic sound, such as the "Hey Now EP" featuring Kyle, and club hits like "All You" and "Sunrise". Despite the changes in membership, The Cataracs managed to retain a signature upbeat and infectious sound that resonates with fans of electro-pop and hip-hop.
