The Ronettes were an American girl group from New York City, one of the most popular groups from the 1960s. Formed in 1957, the group originally consisted of lead singer Veronica Bennett (later known as Ronnie Spector), her older sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. They became famous for their unique blend of doo-wop, R&B, pop and rock and roll sounds, contributing to the genre that later became known as the "Wall of Sound," which was devised by the legendary producer Phil Spector.
Their 1963 debut album "Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica" brought them into the spotlight, with hits like "Be My Baby," and "Baby, I Love You". Their vocal harmonies and distinctive look — with their trendsetting beehive hairstyles and heavy eyeliner — became a defining image of the era. "Sleigh Ride", a holiday favorite, showcases their ability to create timeless classics. Although they split up in 1966, The Ronettes legacy continued, influencing countless artists and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Later compilations and re-releases, including songs such as "Sleigh Ride (Sped + Slowed)" and "Love Power," keep their music alive for new generations, paying tribute to their profound impact on the sound and style of the early days of rock music.
