June Christy was an American jazz singer known for her cool, understated style and her collaborations with Stan Kenton. Born Shirley Luster in 1925, she began her career as a vocalist with Kenton's orchestra in 1945. Her signature songs include "Something Cool," "Blue Moon," and "The Thrill Is Gone." Christy left Kenton's band in 1952 to pursue a solo career, and she continued to record and perform until her death in 1990.
