Mehdi Qamoum is a talented musician from Agadir, Morocco, deeply rooted in traditional Gnawa music. Born in 1991, he was raised in a family immersed in this rich cultural heritage, which inspired him to form his first band at a young age. Qamoum is known for his mastery of various folk instruments, including the guembri, karkabas, and bendir, as well as a custom 4-string electric guembri he built himself. He has collaborated with numerous artists on both national and international stages, blending Gnawa traditions with modern styles like rock and blues. His music often addresses pressing social issues such as poverty and discrimination, reflecting his commitment to using his art to convey meaningful messages.
Qamoum's career has been marked by significant collaborations and performances at notable festivals, including L’Boulevard in Casablanca, Timitar in Agadir, and the Mama Africa festival in Merzouga. He has also performed internationally at events like the N’Sangu NdjiNdji festival in Congo and the OneBeat residency in the US. His stage name, MediCament, reflects the healing power of Gnawa music, and his album "MediCaments" was released in 2016. Qamoum continues to evolve his unique sound, blending traditional Moroccan cultures with contemporary influences to create a distinctive musical identity.
