Quatuor Cobalt

Quatuor Cobalt is a Montreal-based string quartet founded in 2017 at the Université de Montréal. The group is known for its versatile and historically informed approach, performing on period instruments and exploring a wide repertoire that spans from early music to contemporary works. They are dedicated to making classical music accessible and engaging by blending stylistic periods and collaborating with contemporary Quebec composers. Their debut album, *Reflets du temps*, highlights this blend by featuring music performed on instruments authentic to the Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary eras, creating rich and distinctive soundscapes that bring each piece to life.

The members of Quatuor Cobalt—Guillaume Villeneuve and Diane Bayard on violins, Clément Bufferne on viola, and François Leclerc on cello—have performed at major Canadian festivals such as Festival International de Lanaudière and Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. The ensemble also actively collaborates with renowned Quebec artists, fostering a true musical mosaic through their innovative arrangements and improvisations. Their repertoire includes works like Fanny Mendelssohn’s *String Quartet in E-flat major, H.277* and commissions by living composers, emphasizing the group’s commitment to both historical and contemporary string quartet music.
