Lamomali

Lamomali is a unique musical collective blending African, world, pop, and rock styles, primarily centered around Malian roots. The project was initiated by French singer-songwriter Matthieu Chedid, aka -M-, after a 2006 encounter in Mali with the legendary kora player Toumani Diabaté and his son Sidiki Diabaté. The group also features the Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara among other talented artists, merging their diverse backgrounds to create a vibrant cultural and musical dialogue. Their debut album was released in 2017, celebrated for iconic tracks like "Bal de Bamako," and the collective returned in 2025 with new material and a series of concerts highlighting this ongoing cross-cultural journey.

Lamomali stands as a bridge between Paris, Bamako, and the wider world, embodying a shared heritage and musical innovation. The collective’s name itself conveys a deep connection to Mali, expressed through traditional instruments like the kora intertwined with modern sounds. The project is both a tribute to Mali’s musical history and an exploration of contemporary sounds, with -M- continually reinventing himself through this collaboration. The ensemble received strong acclaim for its heartfelt blend of traditional and modern music, underscoring themes of unity, cultural pride, and artistic creativity.
