Peter Metro

Peter Metro, born Peter Clarke in Kingston, Jamaica, around 1960–1961, is a pioneering reggae and dancehall deejay who made his mark on the music scene from the early 1980s onward. He first performed under the name Peter Ranking but adopted the “Metro” moniker after joining the Metro Media sound system, where he found international fame as the first multilingual reggae toaster—his fluency in Spanish helped him connect with fans across South America and further afield. Over the years, Peter Metro was lauded as a top dancehall artist, winning DJ of the Year in 1986 and DJ of the Decade in 1990, and collaborating with major figures like Yellowman and Freddy McGregor. He continues to release music, most recently dropping tracks on the 2023 album "Super Clash," showcasing his enduring appeal in the reggae and dancehall world.

Peter Metro’s distinctive style and international reach—from touring with Reggae Sunsplash to performing at Madison Square Garden—have cemented his status as a beloved veteran of Jamaican music. His catalog, packed with hits and collaborations, reflects both his journey from sound system culture to global stages and his lasting influence on the genre.
