Rotting Christ

Rotting Christ is a pioneering Greek black metal band formed in 1987 by brothers Sakis Tolis (vocals, guitar) and Themis Tolis (drums). The band started as a grindcore act, but over time, they evolved and refined their sound to incorporate elements of gothic and melodic black metal, which allowed them to stand out within the metal community. Known for their atmospheric textures and darkly poetic lyrics, Rotting Christ has consistently pushed the boundaries of black metal, often infusing their sound with traditional Greek music influences and socio-political commentary.

Throughout their prolific career, Rotting Christ has gained notoriety for their controversial band name and lyrical themes, which often explore religious and mythological subject matter, sometimes provoking opposition from conservative groups. Nevertheless, the band has cultivated a dedicated global following, thanks to their commanding live performances and a discography that reflects both growth and a refusal to conform to strict genre expectations. Albums like "The Heretics" and "Rituals" exemplify the band's matured songwriting and thematic explorations, while live albums such as "Lucifer over Athens" capture the raw energy and fervor of their performances. With a career spanning several decades, Rotting Christ has firmly established itself as a cornerstone of the extreme metal scene, and their influence resonates loudly within the genre's evolution.
