Art in America is an American progressive rock band formed in 1980 in Detroit, Michigan, notable for being the first rock band to include a concert pedal harp in their lineup. The group is composed mainly of siblings Chris Flynn (guitar, lead vocals, songwriter), Dan Flynn (drums), and Shishonee Flynn (pedal harp, koto, tambura, vocals), along with Jim Kuha (bass, vocals, songwriter) and Garry Galloway (keyboards). They gained national attention with their 1983 self-titled debut album produced by Eddy Offord, which featured the MTV-friendly title track "Art in America" and included contributions from notable musicians such as Steve Morse.
After relocating to Los Angeles in 1985 and facing challenges in the music scene, the band went on hiatus for several years but revived their career in the 2010s, releasing new albums including *The Hentschel Sessions* (2013) and *Cloudborn* (2018). Their innovative blend of 1970s prog rock and 1980s pop, underpinned by the unique sound of the pedal harp, keeps their music fresh and distinctive. They continue to record and share music on streaming platforms, maintaining a dedicated fanbase and actively honoring their history with recent releases like the EP *The Shadows of Galloway* (2023).
