Nina Simone

Nina Simone, born Eunice Kathleen Waymon on February 21, 1933, in Tryon, North Carolina, was a powerhouse of talent whose music defied simple categorization. Trained as a classical pianist with aspirations to become the first black concert pianist, Simone's path took a turn when she started playing in nightclubs to fund her studies at Julliard. Her distinctive voice and skillful playing soon garnered her a following. By blending jazz, blues, classical music, and her ardent civil rights activism, Simone carved out a unique space in music history. Her emotional performances and songwriting were both a mirror to the societal challenges of the times and a record of her personal struggles.

Throughout a career spanning more than three decades, Nina Simone recorded over 40 albums, moving through an eclectic range of styles and themes. Her music continues to influence and inspire long after her passing on April 21, 2003. Some of her most enduring songs include 'I Put A Spell On You,' 'Feeling Good,' and 'Mississippi Goddam'—a searing response to the murder of civil rights activist Medgar Evers and the Birmingham church bombing that killed four young black girls. Simone's contributions to music were recognized with inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Grammy Hall of Fame, testament to the lasting imprint of her artistry. The recent releases and remixes of her work, such as 'Feeling Good (Austin Millz Remix)' and 'My Baby Just Cares For Me (HONNE Remix),' continue to celebrate her legacy, introducing her passionate storytelling and powerful voice to new generations.
