ANGRA

Angra is a Brazilian power metal band renowned for its technical proficiency and blend of classical and traditional Brazilian musical influences. Formed in 1991 by vocalist Andre Matos, guitarists Rafael Bittencourt and Andre Linhares (who was soon replaced by Kiko Loureiro), bassist Luís Mariutti, and drummer Marco Antunes, Angra quickly made a name for itself with its 1993 debut album "Angels Cry." The band became a staple in the metal scene with its sophisticated melodic compositions and rich lyrical themes often focusing on philosophy, psychology, and history.

As the band evolved, its lineup has undergone several changes, but the core musical direction remained intact, often classified as symphonic power metal with a distinctly Brazilian flair. One of the notable albums, "Holy Land" released in 1996, exemplified this unique synthesis of musical styles. Angra's recent works, such as "ØMNI" (2018), continue to showcase their ability to weave complex narratives through their music, with the album itself being a concept piece set in a dystopian future. Even as members have come and gone, with revered guitarist Kiko Loureiro joining Megadeth in 2015, Angra has preserved its status as an influential and beloved entity within the power metal pantheon, consistently releasing material like "War Horns" and engaging in artistic collaborations as seen in "ANGRA ilumina Sonastério", which further solidify their legacy in the genre.
