The Ellie Badge

The Ellie Badge is a musical project driven by singer-songwriter Jeremiah Matthews. It began with Matthews writing and recording songs at the age of 15 in 2005. Initially, The Ellie Badge had a brief stint as a traditional four-piece band but evolved into a solo act after Matthews attended graduate school. The project is characterized by its DIY ethos, with Matthews handling all aspects of songwriting, performance, recording, and production. Over time, the sound has shifted from a pop-punk style to a more personal and raw aesthetic, focusing on themes of loss, growing up, and connection. The Ellie Badge is known for its inventive use of live-looped instruments and has released music that includes tracks like "Looking for You / Heat Death" and "The Kids Who Hold The Hatchet Were Born to Carve the Wood...".

The Ellie Badge has performed live, notably opening for bands like Listener and '68. A live EP, "LIVE at Growler's in 2019!", was released, showcasing their dynamic live performances. The project is based in Memphis, Tennessee, and operates as a side hustle that holds a central place in Matthews's creative life.
