Martin Codax was a Galician medieval joglar, a non-noble composer and performer, possibly from Vigo, Galicia, in present-day Spain. He is believed to have been active during the middle of the thirteenth century. Codax is notable for his contributions to the genre of cantigas d'amigo, a type of Galician-Portuguese song. He is one of only two out of 88 authors of cantigas d'amigo who exclusively used the archaic strophic form aaB, which includes a rhymed distich followed by a refrain. Additionally, he employed an archaic rhyme system and consistently used a strict parallelistic technique known as leixa-pren. His body of work consists of seven cantigas d'amigo, which are preserved in the Pergaminho Vindel and other Galician-Portuguese songbooks.
The releases you've mentioned, such as "Ondas do Mar. Las siete Cantigas d'amigo de Martin Codax," suggest that his work continues to be celebrated and interpreted in modern times. However, it's important to note that these releases might not be directly attributed to Martin Codax himself, as they could be interpretations or performances of his medieval compositions by other artists.
