Europe is a Swedish rock band formed in Upplands Väsby in 1979, initially under the name Force by vocalist Joey Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bassist Peter Olsson, and drummer Tony Reno. They rose to international fame in the 1980s with their third album, "The Final Countdown," which became a global hit and its title track reached number one in 25 countries. Known for their melodic rock anthems and electrifying stage presence, they became one of the emblematic bands of the glam metal era, though their sound also incorporated elements of hard rock and progressive rock.
Despite taking a hiatus in the 1990s, Europe reunited in the early 2000s and have continued to record and tour extensively. With a lineup comprising Joey Tempest, John Norum, bassist John Levén, keyboardist Mic Michaeli, and drummer Ian Haugland, the band has consistently released new material and maintained a loyal fan base. Notable among their recent works are "War of Kings" and "Walk The Earth," with the latter winning the band a Swedish Grammy. Their enduring legacy was highlighted in "The Final Countdown 30th Anniversary Show (Live At The Roundhouse)," where they celebrated the album that shot them to stardom. Continually evolving their sound while staying true to their roots, Europe has secured their place in the annals of rock music as a band that defies the test of time.
