Katzenjammer is a Norwegian band that burst onto the music scene with an eclectic and vibrant sound that refused to be pigeonholed. Formed in 2005, the all-female quartet originally consisted of Anne Marit Bergheim, Marianne Sveen, Solveig Heilo, and Turid Jørgensen, who met at a music school in Oslo and bonded over a shared passion for genres as diverse as folk, pop, rock, and Balkan music. The band's name, German for "cat's wail," hints at their playful and slightly rebellious spirit.

Katzenjammer's debut album, "Le Pop," was released in 2008 and showcased their unique blend of instrumentation and harmonies, featuring instruments like the accordion, balalaika, and mandolin. Their follow-up, "A Kiss Before You Go," arrived in 2011 and continued their tradition of genre-bending with infectious energy and storytelling, solidifying their international appeal. A highlight of their discography is "Rockland," released in 2015, which further honed the group's distinctive sound. Although the band has had a hiatus, their spirited performances and genre-defying music have left a lasting impression on fans. With songs such as "Demon Kitty Rag" and "Play My Darling, Play," Katzenjammer carved out a niche for themselves as a band as colorful and unexpected as their performances.
