José Montserrate Feliciano García, known professionally as José Feliciano, is a virtuoso Puerto Rican guitarist, singer, and composer renowned for both his instrumental and vocal skills. Born on September 10, 1945, in Lares, Puerto Rico, Feliciano moved with his family to Spanish Harlem, New York, at the age of five. Despite being born blind due to congenital glaucoma, he mastered the guitar at a very young age, playing by ear. Feliciano's breakthrough came with his soulful cover of The Doors' "Light My Fire" in 1968. However, he has since become perhaps most affectionately known for his perennial Christmas classic, "Feliz Navidad," which has warmed the hearts of listeners ever since its release in 1970.
Throughout his illustrious career, Feliciano has won numerous awards, including several Grammy Awards, and he's been recognized for his influence on Latin music and his crossover into pop, blues, and folk. He's particularly noted for his innovative style of playing the acoustic guitar, introducing a blend of flamenco influence mixed with a penchant for pop, and his smooth, emotive vocal style. With over 50 years in the music business, José Feliciano has released a remarkable catalog of albums such as "Behind This Guitar," "As You See Me Now," and “José Feliciano En Concierto.” His recent works reflect his timeless allure as an artist who seamlessly bridges cultural and musical divides, endearing itself to audiences across generations.
