水戸室内管弦楽団

The **水戸室内管弦楽団 (Mito Chamber Orchestra, MCO)** is a renowned Japanese chamber orchestra based in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture. Established in 1990 as the resident orchestra of the Mito Art Tower, it was founded under the initiative of its first director, Hidekazu Yoshida. The orchestra is known for its unique approach, often performing without a conductor, and features a diverse lineup of Japanese and international musicians. Under the guidance of Seiji Ozawa as its general director, the MCO has performed a wide range of repertoire, from classical to contemporary works, and has collaborated with numerous esteemed conductors and soloists.

The MCO regularly performs at the Mito Art Tower's Concert Hall ATM, hosting about four annual concerts. Their repertoire includes works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Richard Strauss, among others. The orchestra has also been involved in educational programs and charity events, such as supporting recovery efforts after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.
