Rata Negra is a Madrid-based indie punk trio serving up raw, jangly tunes with a hefty dose of emotional grit. Formed in 2015 around vocalist/guitarist Juana, bassist David, and drummer Diego, the band blends post-punk urgency and pop melodies, often drawing comparisons to Spain's legendary underground acts like Los Reactivos. Their lyrics—delivered with Juana’s signature deadpan vocals—tackle existential ennui, everyday rebellions, and societal malaise, all wrapped in DIY aesthetics. Since their scrappy beginnings in Madrid’s underground scene, they’ve built a cult following with albums like *Justicia Cósmica* (2023) and *Una Vida Vulgar* (2021), which feature tracks like “Hawai” and “Desconfía de Ese Chico” that mix barbed-wire guitars with sneaky earworm hooks. Known for their no-frills energy and unflinching lyrics, Rata Negra keeps their sound urgent and relatable, perfect for late-night overthinking sessions or shouting along at sweaty basement shows.
