Burzum is a Norwegian music project founded by Varg Vikernes in the early 1990s. Originally a one-man black metal act, Burzum became one of the most influential and controversial names in the genre's formative years. The project's early releases, including cult classics like "Hvis lyset tar oss" and "Filosofem", are known for their raw production, atmospheric compositions, and minimalistic approach, helping to shape what became known as the second wave of black metal in Norway.
In later years, Burzum's sound shifted from traditional black metal to more ambient and neofolk-inspired music, as reflected in albums like "The Ways of Yore" and "Thulêan Mysteries". Despite—or perhaps partly because of—its infamy, Burzum has remained a significant and polarizing name in underground music circles.
