Harold Arlen was an American composer and lyricist who wrote some of the most beloved songs of the 20th century. Born in Buffalo, New York, in 1905, Arlen began his career as a pianist in vaudeville before moving to New York City in the 1920s. There, he collaborated with lyricists such as Ted Koehler and Johnny Mercer to create a string of hits, including "Stormy Weather," "Blues in the Night," and "That Old Black Magic." Arlen's songs have been recorded by countless artists, from Ella Fitzgerald to Frank Sinatra, and continue to be performed and enjoyed around the world.
