Johnny Zee, also known as Taz or Tarsame Singh Saini, was a pioneering British-Asian fusion artist who made waves in the 90s and early 2000s. Born in 1967, he burst onto the UK Asian music scene in 1989 with his debut album "Hit the Deck," which topped the UK Asian pop charts for an impressive 36 weeks. Johnny Zee later rebranded as Taz and formed the band Stereo Nation, continuing to blend Western pop and R&B with traditional Indian sounds.
Throughout his career, Johnny Zee/Taz released numerous successful albums including "Spirits of Rhythm," "Slave II Fusion," and "Jawani on the Rocks." He also contributed to Bollywood soundtracks and even tried his hand at acting. Sadly, Tarsame Singh Saini passed away in April 2022 at the age of 54, leaving behind a legacy as one of the first major crossover stars in British-Asian music.
