Orquesta Estrellas Cubanas is a renowned Cuban musical ensemble with a rich history. The orchestra was originally founded in Havana in 1956, led by the talented violinist, arranger, and composer Félix Reina. After José Fajardo's exile in 1959, Reina took over the leadership of Fajardo's orchestra, renaming it Orquesta Estrellas Cubanas. Under Reina's direction, the group became a staple of Cuban popular music, performing a diverse repertoire that includes danzón, cha cha chá, bolero, and more. They have regularly performed in Cuba and internationally, participating in numerous radio and television programs, as well as recording for several labels.
One of their notable works is the album "Violín a Ochún," which combines ritual songs with exceptional violin performances as a tribute to the Cuban spiritual patroness Ochún. After Félix Reina's passing in 1998, the orchestra continued under the direction of violinist Gilberto Valdés. Despite the leadership change, Orquesta Estrellas Cubanas remains a significant part of Cuba's musical heritage, continuing to share the vibrant sounds of Cuban music with audiences worldwide.
