The Bach Choir is one of the United Kingdom's most renowned and long-established choral groups, with a rich history dating back to its founding in 1876. Based in London, the choir first came to prominence under the baton of composer Sir Charles Villiers Stanford and made a major mark with the first performance of Hubert Parry’s now-iconic setting of “Jerusalem” in 1916. Over the years, The Bach Choir has built a reputation for versatility, performing everything from classical masterworks by Bach and Handel to contemporary choral commissions and large-scale collaborations.
Known for its polished sound and ambitious programming, The Bach Choir regularly performs at prestigious venues like the Royal Festival Hall and Cadogan Hall, and often works with top orchestras and soloists. With a strong recording presence, the choir’s discography includes works by composers such as Benjamin Britten, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Herbert Howells, as well as innovative arrangements of classical works—for example, recent recordings of Verdi’s Requiem orchestrated for two pianos, organ, and percussion. Led by Musical Director David Hill since 1998, The Bach Choir continues to be a vibrant force in the UK’s choral music scene.
