The Thousand Dollar Playboys

**The Thousand Dollar Playboys** are a Detroit-based garage rock outfit formed in the early '90s as a side project by Mick Collins (of The Gories and The Dirtbombs fame) and Dan Kroha (The Demolition Doll Rods, The Gories). Known for their raw, soul-infused sound, the band blends scuzzy guitar riffs, lo-fi energy, and a deep love for vintage R&B. Their self-titled 1993 debut LP, *The Thousand Dollar Playboys*, became a cult favorite, channeling the grit of Detroit’s underground scene with tracks like "Stay!" and "Preacher" showcasing their knack for catchy, foot-stomping hooks.

Though they’ve kept a relatively low profile over the years, their releases—including the bluesy *Got to Keep Moving* and raucous holiday track *A Very Special Christmas*—highlight their playful reverence for rock ‘n’ roll’s scrappier edges. The Playboys’ music feels like a sweaty basement gig: unfiltered, unpolished, and full of soulful swagger.
