The Mercy Cage

The Mercy Cage is a melodic elektro-darkwave/cyber-noir project formed in 1999 from the remnants of New Zealand alternative/goth-rock band The Altar. Fronted by singer-songwriter Josh Wood (as evidenced by ownership credits on their 2018 "Five Zeroes" single), the group has maintained a consistent darkwave aesthetic while releasing conceptual projects like their "Corrosion Suite" B-sides collection and the expanded "Hymn_01: Virtual" release. Their catalog spans immersive, thought-provoking material ranging from industrial-tinged electronic work ("Machine Logic") to atmospheric narratives like "Rust: A Fiction" and "The Jewellery Thief". Current live performances sometimes feature former Altar collaborators like Dean Young and R.Neale.
