The Jones Girls

The Jones Girls were an American R&B trio of sisters Brenda, Valorie, and Shirley Jones, originally hailing from Detroit, Michigan. They first found fame in the 1970s, singing backup for an array of R&B and soul artists including Diana Ross. Their smooth harmonies and powerful lead vocals caught the attention of Philadelphia International Records, leading to their self-titled debut album, "The Jones Girls," released in 1979. The album spawned the breakout hit "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else," which charted impressively on the R&B and Disco charts, establishing the group as a formidable act in the soul and R&B genres.

Throughout the early to mid-1980s, The Jones Girls released a string of successful albums and singles, including "At Peace with Woman" and "Get as Much Love as You Can," further solidifying their reputation for delivering heartfelt ballads and sophisticated soul with a contemporary edge. Their music, characterized by its rich harmonies and emotionally resonant lyrics, resonated with audiences and critics alike. Though they parted ways with Philadelphia International Records in the mid-80s, the trio continued to make music, with albums like "On Target" reflecting their enduring appeal. The sisters pursued individual projects as well, with Shirley Jones enjoying a successful solo career. The Jones Girls’ legacy is defined by their significant contribution to the R&B and soul music landscape, leaving behind a catalogue of timeless songs that continue to inspire new generations of artists and fans.
