Caracana is a vibrant folk band rooted in Cornwall, known for their uplifting Nos Lowen or Cornish Ceilidh music. Their sound draws from a rich tapestry of influences including their native Cornwall, as well as Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Sweden, Brittany, Galicia, and Eastern Europe, interwoven with their own original compositions. The band's name, meaning "the love of music" in Cornish, perfectly captures their heartfelt approach to folk music that has been resonating with audiences for over twenty years.
The group features members Pema Wainwright (clarinet, bass clarinet, vocals, percussion), Anita Wells-Cock (double bass, vocals), Simon Tagney (guitar, flute, vocals), and Andi Burris (fiddle, vocals), often joined by talented guest musicians and dancers. Well-known on the Cornish folk scene, Caracana has represented Cornwall at the Interceltic Lorient Festival in France and supported legendary folk acts like The Incredible String Band. They specialize in energetic folk dance music but are equally adept at creating intimate musical moments, making them popular for ceilidhs, weddings, festivals, and special events. Their recent release includes the EP "Now the Summer is Over" which showcases their engaging folk style.
