Márta Fábián, born in 1946 in Budapest, is a renowned Hungarian cimbalom player and soloist known for her versatility in both classical and contemporary music. She started playing the cimbalom at the age of eight and was a member of the Broadcast Children Choir from 1956. After earning her diploma from the Béla Bartók Musical Secondary School and the Ferenc Liszt Academy, she played with the Budapest Dance Ensemble before embarking on her solo career. Fábián has been a prominent figure in the Hungarian music scene, collaborating with numerous composers such as György Kurtág, András Mihály, and several international artists. She was also a soloist for the National Philharmonic for two decades and has recorded over 10 albums, blending traditional and modern styles and contributing to film music as well.
Her notable work includes the acclaimed first solo album, *CIMBALOM RECITAL*, and she has performed widely, including with the Komische Oper in Berlin. Márta Fábián’s artistry has been recognized internationally, earning her the first prize of the French Disc Academy in 1977. Her collaborations with contemporary composers and her dedication to expanding the repertoire for the cimbalom have made her a key ambassador for the instrument beyond Hungary.
