It Bites

It Bites are a British rock band that emerged in the 1980s, blending prog-rock intricacy with infectious pop hooks. Formed in Cumbria, the original lineup featured Francis Dunnery (vocals/guitar), John Beck (keyboards), Dick Nolan (bass), and Bob Dalton (drums). They gained attention for their virtuosic musicianship and genre-defying sound, showcased on albums like *The Big Lad In The Windmill* (1986) and *Once Around The World* (1988), which included the UK Top 10 hit “Calling All the Heroes.” Their live energy shines through releases like *Thankyou And Goodnight (Live)*, capturing their playful stage presence.

After Dunnery’s departure in the early ’90s, the band dissolved but reunited in 2006 with new frontman John Mitchell, releasing *The Tall Ships* (2008) to critical acclaim. Releases like *Eat Me In St. Louis* and compilations such as *Whole New World* highlight their enduring cult appeal among fans of ambitious, melodic rock. It Bites remain a beloved “musician’s band,” celebrated for their technical flair and quirky charm.
