Rafael Ruibérriz de Torres is a Spanish flautist born in Sevilla in 1983. He began his musical journey as a chorister in the Seville Cathedral and later studied flute at the Conservatorio Superior de Sevilla, where he received the Premio Extraordinario Fin de Carrera. Further specializing in historical flutes, he was mentored by Wilbert Hazelzet at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague and studied with Lisa Beznosiuk at the Royal College of Music in London. Rafael is known for his work with renowned conductors and has performed with orchestras like the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla. He has also collaborated with notable ensembles, showcasing his versatility in chamber music across the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
Rafael's discography includes significant contributions to the world of classical music, such as the complete flute quintets of Boccherini with the Francisco de Goya String Quartet, and the "Five Sevillian Flute Sonatas" by Luis Misón. He has also recorded the concerto for flute in D minor by C.P.E. Bach with the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, and the previously unrecorded concerto for flute in E minor by C.F. Abel with La Spagna. His work is characterized by a deep understanding of historical instruments and a passion for uncovering lesser-known works.
