Arnstein Johansen

Arnstein Johansen was a renowned Norwegian accordionist known for his contributions to jazz and traditional dance music. Born on June 19, 1925, in Fredrikstad, Norway, he studied under notable instructors like Ottar E. Akre and at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Johansen gained international recognition through collaborations with artists such as Pietro Frosini and Anthony Galla-Rini during his time in the United States. He released several albums, including "Crazy Rhythm," "Out of Nowhere," and "Evergreens," showcasing his versatility in both jazz and old-fashioned dances. Johansen was also an accomplished composer, creating pieces like "Cornelli polka" and "Vals in C" (Waltz in C). He passed away on September 26, 2013, at the age of 88.

Johansen's discography reflects his eclectic style, with albums that blend jazz standards like "Tea for Two" and "Too Late Now" with traditional Norwegian music. His work with the Arnstein Johansen Quartet and later Quintet further highlighted his ability to adapt and innovate within different musical genres.
