Rabih Abou-Khalil

Rabih Abou-Khalil is a Lebanese oud player, composer, and jazz musician known for his distinctive blend of traditional Middle Eastern music with jazz, classical, and other world music elements. Born in 1957 in Beirut, Lebanon, Abou-Khalil's musical journey began amidst the cultural richness of his homeland, later taking a turn as the Lebanese Civil War forced him to relocate to Europe. Settling in Germany, he studied classical flute in the Munich Conservatory.

Over the years, Abou-Khalil has carved out a niche for himself with his innovative approach to composition and performance, challenging and expanding the boundaries of world music. His discography is a testament to his vast creative prowess, featuring a wide array of sounds and cultural influences. As reflected in some of his more recent releases, such as "للراحة" (For Relaxation), "حب" (Love), and "ملئ بالامل" (Full of Hope), Abou-Khalil's music often evokes a sense of peace, introspection, and emotional depth. He hones his skills on the oud, infusing his pieces with a lyrical quality that pays homage to his Middle Eastern roots while embracing the freedom and improvisational spirit of jazz. His body of work, which includes gentle, meditative compositions like "Purity" and "Calm," showcases not only his technical mastery but also his ability to convey profound emotion and tranquility through music. Rabih Abou-Khalil stands as a bridge between diverse musical worlds, bringing them together in a harmonious dialogue that resonates with global audiences.
