Afrika Bambaataa

Afrika Bambaataa, born Kevin Donovan on April 17, 1957, in the Bronx, New York, is a legendary DJ, music producer, and one of the originators of breakbeat DJing. He is best known for his pioneering work in hip-hop culture, and his music career that began in the late 1970s and early 1980s. As the founder of the Universal Zulu Nation, he was instrumental in the early development of hip-hop through community-focused events that emphasized the core pillars of the movement: peace, unity, love, and having fun.

His 1982 hit single "Planet Rock" with the Soulsonic Force is often credited with helping to shape the sound of hip-hop, electro, and breakbeat music with its use of synthesizer-driven melodies and rhythms, incorporating elements of Kraftwerk's sound. Bambaataa's influence goes beyond just music, as he used hip-hop to promote social and political awareness. Despite a career shadowed by controversy in recent years, his musical legacy is characterized by a diverse body of work that spans across hip-hop, electro-funk, and dance music, often reflecting his commitment to using music as a platform for change. The releases such as "Boom Boom," "Planet Rock the New Rock," and a series of releases titled "Halloween Michael Has Arrived," show his continued presence and influence within the music world.
