Slavko Avsenik und seine Original Oberkrainer, also known as the Avsenik Brothers Ensemble, were a Slovenian folk music group that revolutionized the genre of Oberkrainer music. Founded in 1953 by brothers Slavko and Vilko Avsenik, the band became a cultural phenomenon, selling over 32 million records worldwide. Their unique sound, blending traditional Slovenian folk music with elements of polka and waltz, captivated audiences across Europe and beyond.
The group's most famous hit, "Na Golici" (known in German as "Trompetenecho"), released in 1955, is considered by some to be the most played instrumental piece in the world. Slavko Avsenik, the accordion player and primary composer, along with his brother Vilko, who handled arrangements, created a repertoire of about 1,000 songs over their career. The band performed over 10,000 concerts globally, including three appearances at the Berlin Philharmonic, before disbanding in 1990.
