Thor & Friends

Thor & Friends is an experimental chamber ensemble founded by percussionist Thor Harris, known for his work with bands like Swans and Shearwater. Formed in Austin, Texas, around 2015, the group blends minimalism, classical instrumentation, and ambient textures to create meditative and often hypnotic soundscapes. Drawing inspiration from composers like Terry Riley and Moondog, their music features a rotating cast of collaborators and an eclectic mix of marimbas, vibraphones, clarinets, strings, and electronics.

The ensemble has developed a reputation for their introspective and richly layered compositions that often defy traditional genre boundaries. Albums like "The Subversive Nature of Kindness" and "3" showcase their commitment to sonic exploration and the emotional resonance of subtle, rhythmic interplay.
