Bassvictim is a London-based electronic duo made up of Polish-English vocalist Maria Manow and American-English producer Ike Clateman. The two first met in Berlin in 2022 under less-than-friendly circumstances, but things changed when they bumped into each other again months later outside a party in London, where they decided to start making music together. The name “Bassvictim” actually came from Ike’s experience at that same party, when the bass was so overwhelming he joked that he was “a victim of the bass”.
Their sound is a punchy, genre-blending mix of bass-heavy dance beats, EDM, and a dash of indie-sleaze, inspired by their shared frustration with the local scene—though you won’t hear much bitterness in their actual music, just upbeat, forward-thinking pop. They got things rolling with their 2023 single “Canary Wharf Freestyle” and have since dropped EPs like *Basspunk* and *Basspunk 2*, plus a string of energetic singles, all released on their own label. Bassvictim is known for their D.I.Y. spirit—they design their own flyers, make their own promo videos, and have even started their own party series called “I was a victim of the bass”. Fun, unpredictable, and always ready for the floor, they’ve carved out a niche as one of London’s rising underground acts.
