Pierre Pitzl, born in 1965 in Austria, is a renowned musician specializing in early music, particularly on instruments like the lute and baroque guitar. He studied guitar at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, where he received his soloist diploma with honors. Additionally, he studied lute at the Schola Cantorum in Basel with notable instructors like Eugen Dombois and Hopkinson Smith. Pitzl also pursued viola da gamba studies with Wieland Kuijken and Christoph Coin.
