Schammasch

Schammasch is a Swiss avant-garde extreme metal band that artfully blends elements of black metal with more eclectic and experimental components. The band was formed in 2009 in Basel, Switzerland, and their name draws inspiration from Šamaš, the Akkadian sun deity—reflecting their esoteric and often spiritually focused lyrical themes. Throughout their careers, they have become known for their atmospheric sound, philosophical and introspective content, and bold approach to the extreme metal genre.

The band's discography exposes a journey of complex thematic albums that frequently challenge and transcend traditional genre boundaries. "Sic Lvceat Lvx," their debut release in 2010, set the stage for the group's ambitious sonic identity. With following projects such as "Contradiction" (2014) and the sprawling triple album "Triangle" (2016), Schammasch further cemented their reputation for crafting immense soundscapes and ambitious song structures that invoke a transformative listening experience. Their most recent work includes "Hearts of No Light" (2019), continuing to dazzle critics and fans alike with its vast array of stylistic influences and emotional depth. Throughout each release, by incorporating elements of ritual and symbolism, Schammasch discards genre constraints, offering listeners an immersive exploration of the darker facets of human experience and spirituality.
