Kayo Dot

Kayo Dot is an experimental music project led by composer and multi-instrumentalist Toby Driver. Formed in 2003 after the breakup of the avant-garde metal band Maudlin of the Well, Kayo Dot has built a reputation for blending a wide range of styles, including progressive rock, classical, jazz, goth, and metal. The band is known for its constantly evolving sound, with each album exploring new sonic territory and defying genre expectations. From the orchestral heaviness of their debut Choirs of the Eye to the retro-futuristic vibes of Coffins on Io and the dark, symphonic textures of Moss Grew on the Swords and Plowshares Alike, Kayo Dot has consistently pushed boundaries and challenged listeners.

Under Driver's creative direction, Kayo Dot has developed a fiercely dedicated cult following. The group has released a number of critically acclaimed albums on labels like Tzadik, Hydra Head, and The Flenser, and their work often draws praise for its ambitious compositions and emotional intensity. Throughout its run, Kayo Dot has remained a dynamic and shape-shifting force in the experimental and avant-garde music scenes.
