The Ian Gillan Band was a mid‑1970s project led by Ian Gillan after his initial stint as Deep Purple’s vocalist. Compared to Gillan’s earlier hard-rock work, this band leaned heavily into jazz‑rock/fusion, built around extended, groove-driven playing and a more exploratory live feel.
They released three studio albums in that era—*Clear Air Turbulence* (1977), *Scarabus* (1977), and *Child in Time* (1976, credited to the Ian Gillan Band in some territories)—and have since had a number of archival and live recordings issued, including concerts from 1977 and various rarities/alternate mixes.
