ÌFÉ is a groundbreaking music project conceived by Otura Mun, an African-American musician, producer, and Babalawo (priest) in the Yoruba religion. Mun, born Mark Underwood before his spiritual transformation, founded ÌFÉ in 2015 in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The name "ÌFÉ," which means "love" and "expansion" in the Yoruba language, reflects the group's ethos and creative vision. Blending various Afro-Caribbean music traditions such as rumba, reggae, and salsa with electronic sounds, ÌFÉ creates a unique spiritual soundscape that transcends borders.
With a mission to bridge the traditional and the contemporary, ÌFÉ's music is a powerful fusion where sacred Afro-Cuban drumming meets electronic rhythms, producing evocative and danceable songs that often address themes of common humanity, spirituality, and connection to the ancestors. This spiritual and musical journey is evident in tracks like "The Living Dead | Ashé Bogbo Egun," which pays homage to the spirits of the ancestors, blending Yoruba chants with modern beats. Through albums and singles such as "0000+0000" and "Heart Full of Love," ÌFÉ has garnered attention from international audiences, inviting listeners to partake in a profound aural experience that is both meditative and energizing.
