Angela Aki

Angela Aki is a Japanese singer-songwriter and pianist known for her emotive ballads and heartfelt lyrics. Born in Shikoku, Japan, and raised partly in the United States, she blends Western pop and classical influences with Japanese musical sensibilities. Angela gained widespread attention in the mid-2000s, particularly after signing with Sony Music Japan and releasing her major-label debut album, Home, in 2006. Her music often features powerful piano arrangements and introspective songwriting, and she has also become known for her stirring live performances.

Angela is perhaps most famously associated with the theme song “Kiss Me Good-Bye” for the video game Final Fantasy XII, which further expanded her fanbase globally. She’s released a string of successful albums, including Today, Answer, and Life, each showcasing her growth as an artist. In addition to her original works, she has also covered and adapted Western pop songs into Japanese, further highlighting her cross-cultural appeal. Angela announced a hiatus from her music career in the mid-2010s to pursue further education in the U.S., but her influence remains strong in the J-pop and singer-songwriter scenes.
