The Premiers were an American doo-wop group formed in the Bronx, New York in 1958. The group consisted of lead singer John Lennon, tenor James Crawford, baritone Clarence Bassett, and bass singer George Scott. The Premiers are best known for their 1959 hit single "Farmer John," which reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The group also released several other singles, including "Take My Hand" and "Just a Penalty," but none of them achieved the same level of success as "Farmer John." The Premiers disbanded in 1962, but they reunited briefly in the 1970s and again in the 1990s.
