Coroner is a Swiss thrash metal band that formed in Zurich in 1983. With a lineup originally comprising drummer Marky Edelmann (a.k.a. Marquis Marky), guitarist Tommy Vetterli (a.k.a. Tommy T. Baron), and bassist/vocalist Ron Royce, they embarked on a journey to become one of the seminal groups melding the technical precision of progressive rock with the raw ferocity of thrash metal. Beginning as a road crew for fellow Swiss avant-garde metal band Celtic Frost, Coroner sharpened their musical skills and conceptual approaches to stand out in the thrash metal scene of the late '80s and early '90s.

Their most recent album, “Grin,” released in 1993, saw them incorporating elements of industrial music and groove-oriented riffs, pushing the boundaries of their genre with complex compositions and a mature, experimental sound. Before "Grin," albums like "Mental Vortex" (1991) showcased their technical prowess and propensity for intricate arrangements, while "No More Color" (1989), "Punishment for Decadence" (1988), and their debut "R.I.P." (1987) fortified their reputation for unrelenting speed, precision, and metal virtuosity. Unfortunately, after "Grin," Coroner disbanded in 1996, but their legacy endured, compelling them to reunite for live performances years later. They continue to be celebrated for their progressive approach to metal and their considerable influence on future generations of metal musicians.
