Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg

The Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, an Austrian ensemble with a rich and venerable history, is deeply embedded in the musical life of the city famously associated with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Its genesis can be traced back to 1841 when it was founded as the "Cathedral Music Association and Mozarteum" by Mozart's widow, Constanze Mozart, along with other aficionados of the composer's music. Officially gaining the title Mozarteum Orchestra in 1908, it has since played an integral role in preserving and promoting the works of Mozart through regular concerts, including the prestigious Salzburg Festival, and other cultural events in Salzburg.

With a repertoire that extends well beyond the works of its namesake—although Mozart's oeuvre remains a centerpiece—the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg has garnered international acclaim for its interpretations of classical and romantic pieces and its support of contemporary music. Under the leadership of distinguished conductors and featuring collaborations with illustrious soloists, the orchestra often ventures into the studio to produce recordings, as seen in their recent releases which include interpretations of Mozart's piano concertos and serenades, as well as works by Strauss and adaptations of Mozart's chamber compositions. The Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg continues to be a beacon of Austrian classical music tradition while engaging new audiences through innovative programming and worldwide appearances.
