Rodan emerged from the rich indie rock scene of Louisville, Kentucky, in the early 1990s. The band was formed by guitarists Jason Noble and Jeff Mueller, bassist Tara Jane O'Neil, and drummer Kevin Coultas. Their sound, characteristically dense and dynamic, is often associated with the post-rock and math rock genres that were evolving around the same time in the Midwest. Two later releases, "Fifteen Quiet Years," a compilation of rare and unreleased material, and "Hat Factory '93," a live session recording, were released posthumously, reigniting interest in Rodan's brief but impactful contribution to the '90s indie rock scene.
